HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- The CBS 6 Month of Giving continues every day through December as CBS 6 team members surprise folks with random acts of kindness.

For many people, 2016 has been a difficult year. But it has been especially rough for Michelle Wood of Ashland.

In July, her mother passed away and just two months later her only daughter, 22-year-oldAzriel Desire Wood, was killed in a car crash.

Anchor Angie Miles wanted to do something to brighten Michelle's holiday.

“This has got to be a very difficult Christmas for you because of that,” Miles said. “I didn’t want to miss an opportunity to remember her in a special way.”

Azriel loved music and was a talented strings instrument player, so Miles told her about a special music program being created at the middle school her daughter attended.

“Every year a new sixth grader can have the use of an instrument to play throughout their middle school career in memory of Azriel," Miles said.

Additionally, Miles gave Wood a gift to treat herself to something special during the holidays.

"Thank you so much," Michelle said. "This is so wonderful."

Michelle told Miles she is in the process of selling her home.
