VCU sends alert after home invasion, sexual assault near campus

RICHMOND, Va. – Early Thursday morning, Richmond Police responded to a home in the Carver neighborhood for a report of a home invasion, robbery and sexual assault.

Virginia Commonwealth University issued an alert to students that the crime had been reported.

According to the alert, the survivor was inside their residence in the 800 block of Catherine Street, at approximately 3 a.m. on Dec. 15,  when an armed male appeared inside of the home. Police said he reportedly entered through an unlocked door.

The suspect assaulted the survivor, took personal belongings and eventually left the residence in an unknown direction. Richmond Police received the report a few hours after the incident occurred.

Richmond and VCU Police officers thoroughly searched the area and have significantly increased patrols in the neighborhood. The Richmond Police Department is leading the investigation.

The suspect was described as a male young in age and thin in build, approximately 5’10” in height and wearing all dark clothing.

Students, faculty, staff and citizens of Richmond are asked to report all suspicious persons or incidents, however minor, to police immediately.
