RICHMOND, Va. -- Neighbors are pressing for a stoplight after a woman was fatally struck near a mobile home park on Hull Street Road Wednesday evening.
Police said 74-year-old Betty A. McMillan was walking along the 5200 block of Hull Street Road when she was hit by a Hyundai Accent headed eastbound just after 5:35 p.m.
Authorities said McMillan, who lived nearby, died at the scene.
The RPD Crash Team responded took measurements and interviewed witnesses at the scene.
Officials said no charges have been filed but that they are still investigating.
Crystal Brady said the wreck was all too familiar for her family since her stepfather was fatally struck while trying to cross the road in 2000.
Neighbors said McMillan was well known in the area and walked frequently.
"The pedestrian who got hit, they aren't the only people. My stepfather is not the only person," Brady said. "There have been numerous people whether they passed away or got injured."
Brady and others nearby said this is a dangerous area with the high volume of traffic and many people trying crossing the street.
As a result, she thinks a stoplight is needed near the entrance to the Worsham Mobile Home Park.
“I think they should have a stoplight somewhere in the middle to slow traffic down," Brady said.
WTVR CBS 6 has reached out to the city about the possibility of adding a stoplight, but the station had not heard back as of 7 p.m. Thursday.
