MECHANICSVILLE, Va. — The Hanover Sheriff’s Office would like to hear from Mechanicsville neighbors who have security cameras running overnight. This after late Sunday into early Monday, the downtown Mechanicsville area fell victim to a crime spree.

Deputies were first call out to the 7300 block of Roosevelt Avenue just after midnight when someone reported their green 2002 Honda CRV was stolen.

Later that same morning, deputies were called to the 7300 block of Full View Avenue to investigate after a car owner reported items stolen from their vehicle.

The crime scenes sit approximately 100 yards from each other, investigators said.

The crimes were not limited to vehicles.

Along the 8100 block of Cool Summer Drive, deputies investigated reports of someone going through “multiple mailboxes.”

“Once on scene deputies located numerous pieces of mail on the ground as well as numerous open mailboxes. Deputies are currently working to determine if any mail has been stolen,” Hanover County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. James Cooper said. “The Sheriff’s Office requests that any citizens with exterior security cameras who live in the area where these crimes were committed, to please check their footage and contact the Sheriff’s Office if anything suspicious is noticed.”

All the crimes were committed between 11 p.m. Sunday and 2 a.m. Monday, investigators said.

Anyone with information was asked to call Hanover Sheriff’s Office at 804-365-6140 or Richmond Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
