HOPEWELL, Va. -- Police are looking for the Christmas thieves who removed an air conditioning unit and broke into a Hopewell apartment Thursday stealing money, electronics, jewelry and wrapped presents from under the Christmas tree.
The thieves even stole cookies and pretzels on their way out.
"It's breaking my heart because it’s the holidays and you’re supposed to be able to take care of your kids and provide for them and my kid can’t sleep because he’s scared to death," mom Rachael Grant said.
Grant says what should be a time for holiday cheer, has been ruined for her family.
"It was special, but now my son says he never wants to put up a tree again," she said.
Grant said she hoped the thieves left behind fingerprints so detectives could find those responsible and return the family's stolen stuff.
She says even her beagle "Biscuit" was shaken up. The dog was in the apartment when thieves broke in, stole gifts from under the tree and ransacked a bedroom.
The Hopewell mom says because of Biscuit's behavior, she suspects intruders may have beaten the dog during the break in.
