HENRICO, Va. -- A Henrico mother is frustrated after her 11-year-old daughter waited for a school bus that was massively delayed.
"I never received a text, I never received no message from the school, I never received nothing from the bus," said mother Joyce Strayhorne said.
Strayhorne heads to work every morning at 7 a.m. so she relies on the bus to take her daughter to Elko Middle School, but on Wednesday morning she received a startling phone call from the girl, telling her the bus never came and that a friend's aunt would take her to school.
"Some kid may be at the bus stop by themselves and have no idea what's going on and the parents don't know," Strayhorne said.
Another parent told CBS that she never received an alert either.
Strayhorne contacted the CBS6 Problem Solvers for answers, who then immediately reached out to the school system.
Spokesperson Andy Jenks confirmed that particular bus had a mechanical issue, and the system brought in a backup bus to pick up kids, but the system did not make a timely call to parents to let them know about the delay.
Jenks said the school system will carefully review their practices because the standard they set for themselves is to ensure that families are kept well informed.
"I'm just really concerned what's going on with the schools and now this bus thing has got me frustrated," Strayhorne said.
Strayhorne said after speaking with us she received a call from the Transportation Director who apologized for what happened.
Jenks said they are "very sorry for the inconvenience."
