RICHMOND, Va. -- Religious leaders along with members of the community gathered to support diversity across Central Virginia at Sunday’s Standing Together RVA event.

About 400 people, including Attorney General Mark Herring, packed Third Street Bethel A.M.E. Church to offer support to those who feel targeted of late and to stand up against divisiveness.

One of the key messages from the event was that stepping out of your comfort zone to engage with someone who might look or think differently leads to understanding.

“Allyship can be a small, simple, day-to-day gesture. It doesn't have to be this huge -- I'm going to stand on the steps of the Capitol,” Dr. Archana Pathak, who moderated the Standing Together discussion, said.

Following a panel discussion, attendees pledged to fight divisiveness by working together.
