Joleal Burno, 18, appeared in court Friday for a pre-trial hearing for possession of marijuana and manufacturing a controlled substance charges, McLeod said.

But when he learned of an additional outstanding warrant for his arrest, he ran.

“Burno fled out of the courtroom only to find deputies waiting for him at the main entrance,” McLeod said. “With his exit blocked, Burno ran upstairs to the Circuit Court section of the courthouse where he tried to jump from a second floor balcony when deputies converged on him. Deputies were able to grab Burno and take him into custody before he could fall the 20 feet to the concrete floor beneath him.”

Burno was charged with resisting arrest and taken to the Chesterfield County Jail. He is due back in court on Monday.
