DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. -- A Dinwiddie man is recovering at the VCU Medical center after being shot in front of relatives working at a convenience store Sunday night.
Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Office officials said the robbery happened at the Quick Mart in the 21000 block of Boydton Plank Road in McKenney.
Thirty-eight-year-old Chauncy Jones was visiting his cousin and her daughter when armed robbers entered the store around 8:20.
“Two guys just came in and said give me everything and one of them put a gun right to his face,” said Quick Mart employee Shelby Harper.
Shelby Harper was behind the register when the gunman shot her cousin. She screamed for her 19-year-old daughter Shakalan Trisvan to run.
“I ran into the back, five seconds later I heard shots like boom, boom boom,” said Quick Mart employee Shakalan Trisvan.
“I didn’t know if he was shooting at her. I just told her to run. I didn’t care if I got shot, i just didn’t want her to get shot,” said Harper.
“When I heard the shots and she was calling my name I was so scared to turn that corner and I saw her and she was crying like in distraught and she said just help me help me get him straight,” said Trisvan.
Jones was shot multiple times. Trisvan and her mother tended to their cousin’s wounds until help arrived.
“They shot him for no reason because we cooperated fully,” said Harper, “Thankfully we are still alive,” added Harper.
Jones underwent eight hours of surgery and is in intensive care.
