RICHMOND, Va. -- A man was rushed to the hospital after a fire broke out inside the bedroom of his home in the 100 Block of Shields Avenue in Richmond.
Fire crews got a call from a woman about smoke coming out of the second floor of her home just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.
She said her husband was still inside, and could not walk on his own.
Fire crews quickly got the fire under control, and rescued the man from his bedroom.
The man was taken to VCU Medical Center for serious injuries sustained in the fire.
The man is in critical, but stable condition and is in the Intensive Care Unit with burns covering 45% on his body.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
