Douglas Freeman used a stingy defense and the memory of an early playoff exit to knock off Lee-Davis 14-7 in the first round of the 5A South playoffs.
Korey Cooper ran for 65 yards and a touchdown and Trey Laughlin threw a 39 yard scoring pass to Jakari Williams as the Rebels built a 14-0 halftime lead. Tanner Dobrucky added another 58 yards on 9 carries for Freeman.
Zach Lass completed just 9 of his 23 passes for 115 yards and a second half touchdown to Jamon Coffey to cut the Rebel lead to 14-7 but the Freeman defense stiffened from there. Freeman (10-1) advances to face Highland Springs next week. Nathan Evans ran for 119 yards in his final game for the Confederates who finish at 8-3.
