HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Some 60 homes, businesses and two school near Woodman Road and Raymond Boulevard in Henrico are without water Thursday morning due to a water main break, according to Henrico Police.

"Crews have initiated repairs after isolating the break," Henrico County Department of Public Utilities Melvin Slough said. "The Henrico County Department of Public Utilities is increasing pumping to restore water pressure to normal levels. The Division of Fire’s response to contain a structure fire that occurred overnight in the area also had impacted water system levels."

No water pressure was reported at Trevvett Elementary School and low water pressure was reported at Moody Middle School.

"Due to today’s water main break and the resulting lack of water service, Trevvett Elementary School students will be dismissed early today at 11 a.m.," a Henrico Schools spokesman said. "Buses are being prepared to take students home, however, you may also pick up your student at school."

The 4th grade Jamestown field trip remains on schedule, the school system noted.

"Tonight’s parent/teacher conferences will be postponed to Thursday," the message continued. "You may keep your same conference time or contact your child’s teacher to reschedule."

School on Friday is scheduled to open on time.

"Vehicular traffic is encouraged to avoid the area and use Staples Mill Road or Brook Road as an alternate route," a Henrico Police spokesman said. "Public utilities and Henrico Police are on scene and the repair process has started."

Work crews indicated the water main would not be repaired until 6 p.m. Thursday.
