Richmond man killed in afternoon shooting

RICHMOND, Va. -- Tyrell L. Johnson, 22, of Gavestone Court, was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in Richmond's Jackson Ward neighborhood, according to Richmond Police.

"At approximately 2:18 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the 300 block of W. Marshall Street for a report of a person shot. They arrived and located a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound lying on the sidewalk," a Richmond Police spokesperson said. " A second victim, who suffered several abrasions, was located nearby. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Johnson succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon."

Detectives continue gathering information about the fatal shooting.

Richmond Police have investigated more than 50 homicides so far this year.
