The bird, believed to be a female of the iconic species, was pulled out of a roadside storm drain in Orange County, in the Orlando area.

Two birds, one on top of the other, were at the side of a road, video and photos from the scene initially showed.

Television station WFTV in Orlando reported the bird on top was trying to protect the other bird, which got stuck. An expert later told reporters the birds may have been fighting over territory.

About 6 p.m. local time, rescuers approached the birds, video from the scene showed. One of the birds flew away at that time, the station reported.

About 20 minutes later, the other bird was pulled from the drain.
