RICHMOND, Va. — Congressman Dave Brat (R.) will win re-election in the 7th District US House of Representatives race.

With 98 percent of precincts reporting, Brat has 58 percent of the vote compared to 42 percent of the vote for challenger Eileen Bedell (D.).

The 7th District stretches from the West End of Richmond, includes portions of Henrico and Chesterfield Counties, up to up Spotsylvania County.

The district was recently redrawn to include Powhatan and Amelia counties and lose Hanover and New Kent Counties.

Brat, 52, was first elected to congress in November 2014, after stunning House Majority Leader Eric Cantor earlier that year in the GOP primary. Cantor held the seat for 14 years.
