DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. –Parents in a Dinwiddie neighborhood said they'll be keeping an extra eye out after a boy was approached by a stranger Tuesday morning as he walked to the bus stop.

Dinwiddie investigators said the 14-year-old boy was walking along the 4300 block of Chesdin Boulevard when a man in an older, small, grey SUV approached him, and said he'd take the boy to school.

Pam Taylor, who lives off Chesdin Blvd. and walks her two young grandchildren to their bus stop every day, said she was disturbed to hear about the suspicious event.

"My stomach dropped. My heart dropped," said Taylor.

"I look to my left and the guy says get in, I’ll take you to school,” said the teen to CBS 6. “So I keep walking and then he slows down to where he’s about to stop. And he stops next to me and says the same thing, but in a little bit angrier voice," explained the boy.

"I got chills. I just couldn't image anyone taking any child," said Taylor.

"For us to hear that, it’s kind of startling, you know," said Corey Dew, another parent.

Some parents are using the alarming encounter as an opportunity to sit down with their kids to warn them about strangers.

"We want to get them more alert to things that's going on around them,” Drew said. “if you see a car or truck or can or anyone who pulls up and says 'your mom said to pick you up' or whatever -- the answer is no.”

Taylor said she now wants to start a neighborhood watch group to make sure everyone stays safe.  "Work together. Everyone just keep a lookout,” she said.

Officials said the suspicious man in the SUV is white, and around 50-60 years old.

He has gray hair and was wearing a cap.

Call the Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Office if you have any information. The number is 804-469-4550.
