RICHMOND, Va. – Parents, there is an easy way to get some of that Halloween candy away from your children while teaching your little ones a powerful lesson about giving, service and sacrifice.

This week all Richmond-area Kool Smiles dental offices are collecting candy for Operation Troop Treats.

Dentists said the donated candy will be shipped to soldiers overseas.

Dr. Naveen Chennupati said the soldiers are thankful for the treats, because they are a reminder of home.

“I think we got last four years and they really thanks us,” Chennupati said. “They're happy and feel they are not forgotten… They are very grateful and they send over thank you notes.”

For every 25 pieces of candy kids donate, they can receive a free toy. (There is a limit of three toys per person.)

Kool Smiles have locations in Colonial Heights, Mechanicsville and at Southside Plaza.
