Halloween weekend craft beverage events and beer releases

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia is for craft beverage drinkers, and there are plenty of events and beer release this weekend to get your social calendar hopping. The weather is also slated to be perfect.

SATURDAY, OCT. 29

Octoberfestat Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden1800 Lakeside Ave
11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Entry fee included with Garden admission.

Beers served are Ray Ray’s Pale Ale, flavored with hops grown at the Garden, Oktoberfest, Slingshot Kolsch and Maple Brown Ale. All the German favorite foods will be available for sale: bratwurst sliders, schnitzelwich, sauerbraten, house made dumplings, beef stew, beer cheese soup, pretzels

Ardent Ales Roggenbier release
3200 W Leigh St, Richmond
noon to 10 p.m.

A medieval German ale made partially from “roggen,” or rye, malt. Made with Tettnang (bittering) and  Hallertau (aroma) hops and Rye, Vienna, Caramel Rye, and Pils malts.  Has a faint whiff of earthiness in the nose reminiscent of rye bread, as well as mild fruitiness and prominent yeast breadiness — 5.1 ABV.

ZZQ and Continental Divide mobile trucks will be on site.

James River Cellars Winery at 11008 Washington Hwy
Noon to 5 p.m.

Go to one place to sample Virginia craft beverages made by Center of the Universe Brewing, Isley Brewing Company, Blue Bee Cider, Buskey Cider, Sassafras Shade Vineyard and James River Cellars.

Music and food trucks. $25 to enter

Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery Bourbon Barrel Carrot Cake release
4100 Knolls Point Dr, Goochland
Noon to 7 p.m.

Bourbon Barrel Carrot Cake Imperial Amber Ale is made with hundreds of pounds of freshly grated carrots and aged in Kentucky Bourbon Barrels. Spice notes of cinnamon, all spice, cardamon, clove and vanilla compliment the fresh carrot flavor. Five specialty malts, fresh bourbon flavor, American grown hops and our house American Ale Yeast meld with the carrot cake flavor that clocks a 11% ABV. Only 1,000 bottles available for sale. Bottles will not go out to distribution. Onc case limit per customer.

Castleburg Brewery mOatmeal release
1626 Ownby Ln, Richmond
1 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Dark, rich and malty with hints of chocolate, coffee and fruit. A light, creamy mouthfeel at a sessionable 5.5% ABV. Brewed with Cascade and Willamette hops for bittering, dark roasted malts and a traditional English Yeast. Growler fills available.

Center of the Universe El Duderino release
11293 Air Park Rd, Ashland
1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Dude returns! This White Russian Milk Stout was created with eight different malts and vanilla beans. It pours midnight black, capped with tan pillowy head and features flavors of chocolate and espresso. ABV 6.5

$9.99/bottle and no limit.

From 3 to 6 pm, Rockin’ for Autism will be happening in the Beirgarten and will feature three different bands and a bake sale to benefit Commonwealth Autism.

Steam Bell Berkley Hundred release
1717 E Oak Lake Blvd
Noon to midnight

A 7.1% scotch ale fermented with fresh cranberries. It is full bodied, slightly sweet and a bit tart. Berkeley Hundred is named for the estate in Virginia where the first Thanksgiving was held almost 400 years ago.

Music from 7 to 10 p.m. and Dank Eats serves food all day long.

Hardywood Trickery release
1 p.m.

Trickery is a limited-release imperial milk stout aged in apple brandy barrels for 8 months for a smooth apple brandy finish. It has notes of warm caramel, blackstrap molasses, and chocolate covered cherries and has a 13.5% ABV for the price of $20/bottle.

Limit is four bottles per person. Food trucks Arroz RVA and Sammich will be there.

BoozCrawl – Scott’s Addition
6 to 9 p.m.

Richmond’s booziest neighborhood is embracing the nickname and hosting a Halloween bar crawl.

Participants include Ardent Craft Ales, Blue Bee Cider, Buskey Cider, Isley Brewing Company, Reservoir Distillery, Three Notch’d RVA Collab House, and The Veil Brewing Company.

Starting at 6 p.m., pick up Booz Crawl cards at any of the locations visit at least three different breweries in order to get three stamps. When you’re done, turn the card in and be entered to win a $25 gift card from each individual producer.

Seven drawings will take place from all collected and completed cards, and winners will be announced the following day. Costumes encouraged.

The Veil dance party

6 p.m. to midnight

Put on your costumes and go dance at The Veil. DJ El Capone spins from 6 to 9 p.m. and Lordamercy takes over from 9 p.m. to midnight.  Also on the BOOz crawl.

Legend Halloween Bash
321 W 7th St, Richmond
7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Costume contests with prizes, great food and drink specials, as well as music by DJ Cerebral Knievel. Free to join the fun and all ages are welcome.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30

Garden Grove Brewing Company Stranger Things Dance Party
3445 W Cary St, Richmond
6:30 to 11:30 p.m.

Dance the Demogorgon to death! Pre-party scavenger hunt at 5 p.m. takes about an hour. The first three groups/individuals to complete the scavenger hunt will win gift cards courtesy of Garden Grove.

Costume contest with prizes for Strangest, Most-Retro, and People’s Choice. The three winners will receive drink tickets and merchandise courtesy of Garden Grove. All costumes are welcome even if you do not plan on entering the contest.
