Monacan and Manchester are both headed to their respective playoffs in 4A and 6A, but the winner this week will get a big boost towards at least one home game in the post season.

RECORDS: (5)Manchester 7-1  (7)Monacan 8-1

LAST WEEK: Lancers def. Clover Hill 40-20  Chiefs def. Midlothian 45-13

SERIES: Monacan stopped a 7 year Manchester winning streak with last year’s 33-26 win

ON AIR: Fox Sports 910 with Gary Hess and Gary Criswell. Pregame at 7:00, Kickoff at 7:30

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Chiefs are just over a point behind Louisa for 4th in the 4A East ratings. Since this is their last game of the regular season, this is their last chance to secure a home playoff game. Syour Fludd is the region’s third rated passer and leads all quarterbacks with 23 passing touchdowns against only 5 interceptions. RB Korey Bridy is the area’s leading scorer with 28 TDs this year.

The Lancers are led by Brandon Clarke who is averaging 185 yards through the air per game. He is complemented by RB Frank Boyd who is averaging 135 yards per game. They are currently seeded 2nd in 6A South and will wrap up their season next week against Cosby.

Among common opponents, the Lancers have the better record going 6-0 against L.C. Bird, Huguenot, Wythe, Clover Hill, James River and Midlothian while the Chiefs are 5-1 falling to the Skyhawks.

QUOTEABLE: Jim Henderson, Monacan head coach: “Win, lose or draw, there’s still a good friendship. Now they all want to one up each other. They (Manchester) can throw the ball. They do a lot of good stuff with their play action and it works because you have to dedicate your attention to Frank Boyd.”

Tom Hall, Manchester head coach: “It’s become one of those games you definitely look forward to. (Syour) Fludd, it seems like he’s been there forever. He’s a runner and a passer and they do a great job in their scheme.”
