RICHMOND, Va. — A Richmond area-dentistry is encouraging children to bring in some of their Halloween candy in exchange for a toy and to benefit troops.

Kool Smiles is organizing the “Operation Troop Treats” program for the fifth consecutive year.

They are asking children to bring 25 pieces of unopened candy to any area Kool Smiles dental office.

The candy will then be sent in care packages to U.S. service members stationed overseas via Operation Gratitude. They initiated the program to help raise awareness about good dental hygiene and uplift American armed forces serving overseas.

In addition to the candy collected, Kool Smiles is donating 200 dental kits for troops, as well as the funds to cover the assembly and shipment of 200 care packages.

Last year, Kool Smiles received more than three tons of candy for the troops through Operation Troop Treats. Their goal is to surpass last year’s total.

The program will begin on Friday, October 28 through Saturday, November 5.

You can drop the candy off at one of the locations below:

  • Kool Smiles Colonial Heights – 400-C Southpark Blvd., Colonial Heights, VA, 23834, ph#: 804-526-4889
  • Kool Smiles Mechanicsville – 3824 Mechanicsville Pike, Richmond, VA, 23223, ph#: 804-321-5665
  • Kool Smiles Southside Plaza – 4722 N. Southside Plaza St., Richmond, VA, 23224, ph#: 804-319-5665

For every 25 pieces of candy donated there is a 3 toy limit. Toys will also be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
