RICHMOND, Va. — Dominion Virginia Power is warning their customers about the latest scam targeting their customers in the Richmond area.

The company says scammers are sending an email, followed by a phone call that threatens to disconnect customers unless a payment is immediately received.

Dominion says the scammer claims that the company was unable to warn customers of pending disconnections due to a computer glitch.

They then ask for an immediate payment using cash or a pre-paid card.

Dominion Virginia Power said they will never demand an immediate payment.

“We will notify customers in writing multiple times prior to disconnection and offer help with payment plans before disconnections,” said a Dominion spokesperson. Dominion offers a variety of convenient payment methods.  Scammers insist on a specific type of payment, such as cash or a pre-paid card.”
