RICHMOND, Va. — Get your diet all sorted out because a two-week Harry Potter transfiguration of the Carytown Cupcake shop takes place Oct. 24 to Nov. 6.
That means the fantastic s, um bakers, who are solemnly up to no good, will be preparing 12 Harry Potter-themed cupcake flavors.
But the shop will also be transformed into a wizarding fantasy world, complete with floating candles, the Sorting Hat, potions, wands, dementors, an Azkaban photo booth, and a forbidden forest.
It’s not a real wizard party without a mug of house-made Butterbeer, and local cold-brew coffee masters Confluence Coffee will help with concoction; there will be non-alcoholic and alcoholic versions available.
Make sure to have your marauder’s map handy for snooping around the shop to find some of the many surprises hidden. Special gifts and prizes are promised to the most active wizards.
Also throughout the two weeks, the shop is partnering with Change the World RVA, a nonprofit that supports young adults experiencing homelessness and housing instability, for the Dobby the House Elf Teenage Clothing Drive. Donate a teenage-appropriate clothing item to help the organization.
There are several events scheduled as well.
On Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., there will be a special book reading by Harry Potter characters.
Just ahead of Halloween, take your costume for a test run, on Saturday, Oct. 29 and compete in the Harry Potter Costume Contest. Prizes will be given out all day long, with the grand prize winner announced at 8 p.m.
Harry Potter Trivia Night goes down on Nov. 4. Three rounds of trivia begin at 7 p.m., with drink specials running all night. Signup is for teams of four or less and must be done online, in advance.
