VCU student Emma Pascal dies in fall from 17th floor

RICHMOND, Va. -- Police identified the young VCU student who plummeted to her death from the window of a 17th-floor apartment.

Police said that Emma K. Pascal, 19, of Fairfax County, was pronounced dead at the scene just before 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.

A neighbor pointed out that the fall was from the 17th floor, where the penthouse is located, and police sources confirmed. Originally, a police source said that the fall occurred from the 10th floor.

The Towers of Franklin, in the 100 block of Franklin Street,  advertises as housing for Virginia Commonwealth University students. Pascal was not resident, confirmed a spokesperson for the rental company.

Pascal was a first-year Arts Foundation student.

"The VCU family is saddened by the loss of Emma Pascal and offer our condolences to her family and friends," said Charles Klink, Ph.D., Vice Provost for the Division of Student Affairs.  "We have been in touch with members of our community who were closest to her to provide support during this sad time.

At the beginning of the school year, another female freshman fell from a window on the 13th floor of the same building.

Jordan Bowman, a Mills E. Godwin graduate, died just before 3 a.m. on Sept. 10, 2016.

Bowman was a freshman at VCU who rented at the Towers of Franklin.

“We are deeply saddened by the deaths that have occurred at Towers on Franklin and our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims," said a Towers of Franklin spokesperson in a statement issued to CBS 6. "All of our residents have been encouraged to seek grief counseling and suicide support services through University Counseling Services at VCU at 804-828-6200.  In additional, collateral and community resources for both students and non-students is available in the office."

Detectives are currently ruling Pascal's case as a death investigation. No foul play is suspected. No further details are available at this time.
