RICHMOND, Va. -- Police are conducting a death investigation after they found a man's body on a sidewalk in Richmond's Fulton neighborhood.

Police were called to the 5300 block of Blue Ridge Avenue at about 11 p.m. Wednesday for reports of random gunfire.

"Officers arrived and found an adult male on a sidewalk who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound," a Richmond Police spokesman said. "He was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene."

Richmond Police Detectives identified the victim as Marc E. Johnson, 48, of the 5600 block of Simpson Avenue.

The medical examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of death, police said. Detectives were still in the early stages of the investigation.
