WASHINGTON -- Corey Stewart, the Virginia campaign chair for the Trump Campaign, has been fired after staging a protest outside the Republican National Committee headquarters Monday.
Stewart organized the protest on Facebook Sunday, calling all Republican women in Virginia and Maryland to join him and support trump at the RNC headquarters Monday.
During the protest, Stewart called GOP establishment members who betrayed Trump, "pukes."
The Trump Campaign released a statement Monday afternoon, announcing the firing, effective immediately.
"Former Virginia State Chairman Corey Stewart is no longer affiliated with the Donald Trump for President campaign. He is being replaced, effective immediately," Trump deputy campaign manager David Bossie said on the firing. "Corey made this decision when he staged a stunt in front of the RNC without the knowledge or approval of the Trump campaign."
"We have a tremendous working relationship with the RNC," Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said. "Chairman Reince Priebus has been an engaged and incredibly supportive ally to Mr. Trump throughout the campaign."
After leaked tapes of Trump making incendiary remarks about women, Stewart defended Trump, telling CBS 6 Saturday, the Republican nominee should maintain his campaign, despite calls for him to step down.
"No, he should never step down," Stewart said. "Look, we always knew the establishment on both sides, the Republican establishment, the Democratic establishment they were going to come after us very, very hard. They're doing that now [by] trying to you know shake people up and try to dissuade them from voting for Trump for something he said in private 10 years ago.”
Stewart has not yet commented after being fired by the Trump Campaign.
