Hurricane Matthew closes 7 Chesterfield schools

CHESTERFIELD, Va. — While Hurricane Matthew did not cause too much damage in Central Virginia, water and downed trees left by the storm were enough to close several Chesterfield County schools Monday.

Gates Elementary

Salem Elementary

Carver Middle

Salem Middle

Bird High

Cosby High

Chesterfield Career and Technical Center at Courthouse

Students at the Chesterfield Career and Technical Center still need to report to their home schools, they added.

Chesterfield County has not yet said if they expected classes to resume Tuesday.

Schools in Henrico were closed Monday in observance of Columbus Day.
