Police: Random gunfire killed passenger in car in Gilpin Court

RICHMOND, Va. — A woman has died after she was shot in the city’s Gilpin Court neighborhood Sunday.

Police received a call of a person shot near the intersection of E. Hill Street and N. 1st Street a little around 2:55 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to VCU Medical Center where she died.

Officials said the Medical Examiner will determine her official cause and manner of death.

Detectives think the victim was a passenger in a vehicle near the intersection of St. James and East Hill streets when she was shot.

“A woman riding in a car on a bright Sunday afternoon was struck down by what appears to be random gunfire,” Major Crimes Captain James Laino said. “We need the anyone with information about this tragic incident to come forward.”
