Chesterfield man killed in Petersburg shooting

PETERSBURG, Va. --- Police are investigating after a man died from injuries he suffered in a shooting early Saturday morning.

Officers were called to the 4000 block of Nottoway Street off of East Wythe Street around 6:30 a.m. for a report of a person down. Upon arrival, they found 22-year-old Corby Powell of Chesterfield suffering from a gunshot wound.

He later succumbed to his injuries on scene.

Police are continuing to search for evidence and speak to all potential witnesses for more information on the shooting. They are also asking anyone with information who may have heard or seen anything in the area to either contact the Petersburg Police Major Crimes Unit at 804-732-8070 or Petersburg-Dinwiddie Crime Solvers at 804-861-1212.
