CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The University of Virginia Men’s basketball team made a powerful statement of solidarity against social injustice Thursday night with a team picture that’s now going viral.

The players took a team photo dressed in all black with their arms interlocked and knelt on the team’s practice court.

Several players posted the photo on social media.

Star point guard London Perrantes posted the photo on his Twitter page with the caption “Kneel for Injustice. Kneel for Equality. Using our platform to help create change. TOGETHER!”

The statement appears to support the protest of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who is taking a knee during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice.

Coach Tony Bennett issued a statement Friday supporting his team’s public statement of solidarity.

“Our guys realize there are a lot of issues going on in our country. I support their desire to promote peace and equality.”
