UPDATE: In a report about overdue Petersburg Utility Bills, CBS 6 Senior Reporter Wayne Covil reported he had reached out to Councilman Ray Coleman, to inquire about his bill but had not heard back. This morning Coleman showed Wayne his current bill and that he is up to date with his payments.

PETERSBURG, Va. -- Several Petersburg City Council members were late on their utility bill payments, CBS 6 found. That news came amid a budget deficit well over half a million, and after officials recently warned citizens they had to start paying their utility bills.

CBS 6 met up with Ward 4 Councilman Brian Moore at Petersburg City Hall, as he walked in to pay his utility bill.

Just a couple of minutes later, he walked out and offered an apology.

"I'm sorry, I'm a citizen just like you are and I have responsibilities, so I took care of those," he said.

Moore was one of three council members who had a past due utility bill, according to online search records.

Moore arrived at City Hall, a few minutes after a call from CBS 6 about the bill.

"I appreciate your call, I was behind on my bill, $137 dollars late and with the current bill it was like $188, so I went ahead and paid everything up in full," he said.

Less than 30 minutes after stopping in to see Ward 2 Councilman Darrin Hill about his bill, it was also paid in full.
