CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Iron Bridge Road, also known as Route 10, will be closed several hours Monday morning after a car crashed into a power pole.
"All lanes are expected to remain closed an additional four to six hours for cleanup," VDOT spokeswoman Jessica Cowardin said.
The 1:30 a.m. crash, which happened near the intersection of Iron Bridge Road and Irongate Drive, knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses in the area.
"The vehicle traveling north on Iron Bridge Road left the roadway and struck a utility pole," a Chesterfield Police spokesperson said. "The driver of the vehicle was transported to Chippenham Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver was charged with driving under the influence."
More than 3,400 Dominion customers lost power due to the crash. Dominion had the power restored by 6 a.m.
Drivers traveling north on Iron Bridge Road on Monday morning are being detoured onto Kingsland Road. Drivers traveling south on Iron Bridge are being detoured onto Cogbill Road.
