HOPEWELL, Va. – Hopewell Animal Services is offering a special deal to make space for animals in need.

The shelter is currently overcapacity and is now offering $10 pet adoptions.

Hopewell Animal Control Supervisor Amanda Hoak says the shelter currently has 20 cats and 18 dogs in their care. They typically only have room for 14 dogs.

“We have dogs that have been here since the end of December and into May,” said Hoak. “We continue to try and get them out with the help of our local shelters and rescues.”

By adopting animals, Hoak says you not only give a pet a forever home, you also open up a space for another homeless animal.

“The goal is to push adoptions through Facebook, social media … It’s a constant push to bring attention to them and get them adopted,” she said.

“Right now we have a good mixture between senior dogs to young dogs… pit mixes, lab mixes, terrier mixes, cats, a little bit of everything to offer to anyone currently looking for an animal.”

If you would like to take a look at some of the animals, visit Hopewell Animal Services Facebook page.
