NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – Stefanny Lenneth Lopez-Castro, 6, was found alive after an AMBER Alert was issued on her behalf.

“We beat the odds today, it’s safe to say,” New Hanover County Sheriff Edward McMahon told WECT.com.

Douglas Edwards, 46, of Wilmington, North Carolina was arrested in connection to the kidnapping, WECT reported.

Castro has been last seen Wednesday on Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington.

“We would like to first and foremost thank God, the police department, the sheriff’s office and all the communities that went out to search for her in the rain and on their own time,” the child’s family said in a statement released by New Hanover Regional Medical Center where she was being treated. “Thank you to our neighbors and friends and St. Mary’s Church who were praying for her and any others who were praying for her.”
