Hero gives special children adaptive bicycles

RICHMOND, Va. – A group of special children in Richmond received some custom l tricycles Sunday thanks to a man profiled by CBS 6’s Greg McQuade on “Heroes Among Us.

Paralyzed U.S. Army veteran James Howard started a local non-profit calledReachcyclesto build adaptive bicycles.

Eight children were able to take home new tricycles and one mother said her daughter's reaction to the gift was priceless.

“You could tell  that Claire, ut was almost like a light bulb clicked that now she could go, and she could go really fast,” Ashley Ferguson said. “It's what she likes to do.”

Reachcycles has provided more than 100 bikes to children with disabilities over the past year and a half.
