Laburnum building evacuated after bad smell sickens worker

HENRICO, Va. — Emergency crews responded to a HAZMAT situation in the 5600 block of S. Laburnum Avenue on Thursday morning.

The building was evacuated after a strong, bad smell was detected that sickened a person.

The source of the smell has not been identified yet and crews said it could take a bit to detect.

People on scene were treated, and no one was transported to the hospital.

The fire department said there is no threat to the public.

The company Safeware works out of the building.
