HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- The death of a 30-year-old Mechanicsville woman found in a yard near her Honey Meadows home is being investigating as a homicide.

Reena Jadav died as a result of blunt force trauma, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

“Investigators continue to collect and analyze evidence, follow up on all available leads and speak to neighbors,” Hanover Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. James Cooper said.

It didn't take long at all for the news to spread in a normally quiet Hanover County neighborhood.

The news was extremely difficult for Monica Brown-Matthews to hear. She used to work with Jadav at a local hospital.

"She brought that good attitude with her every day… Just a hard worker,” Brown-Matthews said. “She really was sweet. I just appreciated seeing her every day."

She said she’s grateful that they became fast friends and says Jadav is someone she'll never forget.

Her body was found Monday morning, at approximately 5:43 a.m., along the 10000 block of Colony Bee Place. Her body had “obvious signs of trauma,” investigators said.

"It was sad. One day you see a person and the next they're gone. It's a lesson that you should focus on telling people that you love them and care about them… Be good to them," she added.

Brown-Matthews said she knows that friends and neighbors are anxious for investigators to solve the murder.

Sgt. Cooper said they need neighbors and anyone in the community with information, even the tiniest lead to help them piece the case together.

"Even if they think it is not related give us a call. Let us determine that. I would rather someone call us with something that they think is it related and when and actuality it could be so we would appreciate any information whatsoever," he said.

Anyone with information was asked to call Hanover Sheriff’s Office at 804-365-6140 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
