Diamond Macadamia nuts recalled over Salmonella concern

CARLISLE, Pa. – A Diamond Nuts product sold in stores has been recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination.

Diamond Macadamia Halves & Pieces, manufactured by Snyder’s-Lance, Inc., have been recalled.

This voluntary recall covers only the following products, 4 oz Diamond of California® Chopped Macadamia Nuts and the 2.25 oz Diamond of California® Macadamia Halves and Pieces.

To locate the production code on the package, consumers should look on the front of the package.

The 2.25 oz. product has a UPC 7045074391 with lot numbers 16137D331S and 16159D331S and Best Before Dates of 16 NOV 2017 and 07 DEC 2017.

The 4 oz. product has a UPC 010300345848 with lot numbers 16137D331S, 16138D331S, 16158D331S and Best Before Dates of 16 NOV 2017, 17 NOV 2017 and 06 DEC 2017.

There have been no reported illnesses to date.

This voluntary recall is the result of testing by a FDA-contracted laboratory which revealed that a 4oz package of Diamond of California® Chopped Macadamia Nuts contained Salmonella.

Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses.

Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.

The most common manifestations of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within eight to 72 hours. Additional symptoms may be chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days.

Customers who have purchased this product should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to the store where they purchased it.
