CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. — Lt. Anna Harmon, a beloved member of the Ladysmith community, has died after a battle with cancer. She was 43 years old.

CBS 6 profiled Harmon in a “Heroes Among Us” feature last December, when family and friends called her the heart and soul of the Ladysmith Rescue Squad.

Harmon dedicated 27 years of her life volunteering as a third generation first responder.

From scheduling and certification to teaching CPR, Harmon’s passion was to help others.

Even though she was at home battling her aggressive illness and not running calls, Harmon was always worried about her colleagues at the squad.

She would often call to check in on them and she was instrumental in coordinating the Christmas parade.

Harmon’s dedication to the people of Ladysmith was legendary.

Lt. Harmon’s dedication is not going unnoticed. In November, Anna earned the Governor’s Award for top EMT in Virginia.

She is survived by her husband and son.

Her funeral is set for Friday at the Countyline Baptist Church at 11 a.m.
