Virginia529 College Savings Plan (Virginia529), the title sponsor of the NASCAR Xfinity Series Race on Sept. 9 at Richmond International Raceway, today announces it is partnering with Xfinity Series star Elliott Sadler to promote the importance of saving for college in the weeks leading up to Race Weekend in Richmond.
Sadler and his wife Amanda will make several appearances for Virginia529 leading up to the Sept. 9 races. The couple have Virginia529 plans set up for their son and daughter, Wyatt and Austyn.
Sadler, who currently leads the NASCAR Xfinity Series points race, has raced at all levels of NASCAR. He’s won races in all three of NASCAR’s national touring series, including 11 times in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, three times in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and once in the Camping World Truck Series in a racing career that has spanned more than two decades.
“As parents to two young children, my wife and I value the importance of planning for their college education,” Sadler said. “My hope is that I can be a driver for Virginia families to take the first step in starting their savings plans and making an invaluable investment in their children’s future.”
Sadler, from Emporia, Va., planned on playing basketball at James Madison University, where he attended for a year before an injury ended his basketball career and he began focusing on auto racing. Amanda Sadler spent six years as a fourth-grade teacher.
“We’ve had a tremendous relationship with Richmond International Raceway over the years, and we’re excited that the Sadler family shares our mission of assisting families in achieving their higher education goals,” said Mary G. Morris, CEO of Virginia529. “Having Elliott Sadler on board will enable us to share our message with new audiences across Virginia.”
Virginia529, which opened in 1996 and now is the largest 529 college savings plan in the nation, offers Virginia residents and nonresidents four college savings programs to select among: a prepaid tuition program and three savings programs. It oversees 2.4 million accounts in Virginia and across the country, delivering flexible, affordable and tax-advantaged college savings programs to millions of families across the country.
