CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. – Crews working outside Johnston-Willis Hospital in Chesterfield County hit a gas line Friday morning.
Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesman Lt. Jason Elmore said utility crews hit the line around 10:30 a.m.
As a result, staffers were evacuated from nearby medical buildings as well as the hospital’s emergency room and atrium.
“We evacuated a few of the office buildings around here," Elmore said. "As well as shutting down the emergency room."
Elmore said about 20 to 25 staffers affected, but said patient care was not impacted.
The all-clear had been given to all locations except the ER by noon. Elmore estimated those workers would be allowed back inside by about 12:15 p.m.
