RICHMOND, Va. -- A woman is in critical condition after someone shot at the car she was riding in on Interstate 95 in Richmond early Sunday morning.

According to the driver, the shooting occurred around 4 a.m. when the Nissan Altima pulled onto I-95 at Exit 75 on Broad Street and someone in a white Chevrolet Impala fired at the car.

The woman, who was sitting in the front seat, suffered a single gunshot wound. The driver was not injured in the shooting.

The driver of the Nissan traveled more than 20 miles on I-95 and exited at Temple Avenue before calling 911 to report the shooting and get the injured woman help.

The victim was transported to VCU Medical Center for life-threatening injuries.
