HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A Henrico boy battling a life threatening disease is smiling again thanks to the generosity of CBS 6 viewers.
We first told you about Rell Wallen earlier this week.
Rell and his family returned from a Make-A-Wish vacation in Florida, only to find their Eastern Henrico home broken into and thousands of dollars’ worth of electronics missing.
The 12-year-old said four TV's, a Playstation 4, Xbox One, a laptop, hoverboard, and studio equipment were taken from the home.
Rell was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy about two years ago.
His mother said the gaming system was Rell's chance to escape from the confinements of his wheelchair and be social with his friends.
Since his story aired, dozens of viewers have emailed and called asking to help Rell and his family.
Thanks to some generous viewers, CBS 6 reporter Brendan King was able to delivered a Rell a brand new Xbox One, games, and accessories.
“We have some presents for you,” said Brendan. “This came out just a week ago…. Xbox One. What do you think?”
“Cool!” replied Rell.
The viewer who bought the new game system wrote Rell a note that read:
“This will erase that bad thing that has happened and create new memories.”
The viewer said it is like Christmas for them to help Rell at a time of need.
If you'd like to help the family, a GoFundMe has been set up.
