RICHMOND, Va. — Homeless dogs rescued from Louisiana arrived in Richmond Friday night and will soon be available for adoption.
A Richmond SPCA transport team brought 14 dogs to their facility to start a whole new life in Richmond.
The Richmond SPCA rescued the dogs from Louisiana to open up space for the influx of displaced dogs after catastrophic floods struck the state.
The transport to Richmond could be life-saving for some animals as Louisiana shelters can continue to take in more animals displaced by the recent natural disaster.
“Dr. Ivey will give these companions medical exams in the morning. They will then be delivered all necessary veterinary treatment prior to becoming available for adoption,” the Richmond SPCA wrote on Facebook.
As the dogs become available for adoption, their photos and descriptions will be posted on the Richmond SPCA website.
There is no exact timetable for their availability at this time.
This isn’t the first the shelter has rescued dogs from a natural disaster. Last year, the Richmond SPCA rescued 23 shelter dogs from South Carolina floods.
