CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- One of the people who lives at a Chesterfield County home where a suspicious fire broke out earlier this month has been arrested in connection with the fire.

Fire officials said 36-year-old Nya Tamoi Reynolds was charged with arson after a fire at a home in the 13200 block of Sherri Drive before 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7.

"Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the front of the house and fire coming from the rear of the house," Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesman Lt. Jason Elmore said Sunday. "It took crews approximately 30 minutes to get the fire under control."

A giant ball of fire is how neighbors described what they saw that night behind a home on Sherri Lane in Chester.

"Smoke was just pouring out of the second-story windows," said Carol Spickerman, who lives across the street.

Officials said Reynolds was transported to VCU Medical Center where she was in intensive care.

Chesterfield firefighters said when they arrived on scene the home was fully involved. Reynolds was inside according to her father, and paramedics rushed her to VCU Medical Center, where she was listed in serious but stable condition.

Reynolds was released on bond and scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
