FENTON, MO. — A carjacking victim fought off a suspect with hot coffee during an August 8 incident in Fenton, Missouri.

A customer was inside a convenience store paying for coffee at the counter when he looked out the window and saw the suspect backing up in his car, according to the St. Louis County Police Department.

The man ran out of the store, threw hot coffee on the thief and jumped through the window to fight off the suspect.

“I would have let them take it [car],” Jamie Hensel said to KMOV.

But some people at the gas station said they would have done the same thing.

“You can’t let people stomp on you,” said Ken Schultz, gas station customer.

The victim was able to fight off the thief, but the suspect’s crime spree was not done.

Police say the suspect then walked over to a nearby Walmart parking lot and demanded keys from another victim. He grabbed the victim’s arm, pushed him to the ground and took the keys out of his hands. The suspect got away in the victim’s car.

“I don’t think any place is safe and that’s just my opinion, so it doesn’t matter where you are, you can be in North City or you can be in Fenton. It can happen anywhere,” said Hensel.

None of the victims were seriously hurt. Police say they are working several leads and have identified a suspect.
