UPDATE: NC man accused of killing 4, including his 2 children, has criminal record in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. -- A man suspected of killing a mother and her three young children in North Carolina was arrested in Richmond, overnight Tuesday.
Greenville Police said Dibon Toone, 39, is charged with killing four people in a townhome in the West Pointe community.
Toone and the mother were in a relationship, according to Greenville Police Chief Mark Holtzman. He said officers had to force their way inside the home during a welfare check because the doors were locked.
They believe he then stole an SUV and drove about 160 miles before stopping at a convenience store on Hopkins Road in Southside Richmond. Toone was taken into custody just before midnight.
Police haven't released the names of the victims, nor have they indicated a motive.
Toone is expected to appear in court Wednesday morning.
Police in Greenville planned to release more information during a press conference scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The investigation is ongoing.
