CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Most students may be enjoying the last few weeks of summer by going to camp or hanging out at the pool, but one local high school teen is spending his days trying to help others and wants you to join him.

Noah Smith wants to collect 2,000 pairs of shoes to give to those in need. He is partnering with the non-profit Soles4Souls to get the shoes handed out around the world to those in need.

“They develop diseases through non proper footwear,” said Smith. “We want to give them solution to that, that might not mean a lot to us."

Smith has 700 pairs of shoes so far after one shoe drive and believes he can gather 1,300 more between the final drive and community donations.

The community donation effort is all part of Smith’s long term goal of becoming an Eagle Scout. To do that, Smith must demonstrate leadership in performing a project benefiting others.

Smith is helping strangers around the world he may never meet in person but he will always be connected to by the steps they take in their new shoes.

“That has crossed my mind,” added Smith. “Just how many people I could be helping with this project and how many people that I’m impacting.

The next shoe drive is August 27 at the Midlothian Food Lion off Old Buckingham Rd.

If you are not able to make it then, you can reach out to Smith by email to set up another time to meet. Just send your message to napoleon21@verizon.net.
