RICHMOND, Va. -- The intense heat and very high humidity levels from Saturday will continue again into Sunday evening. Highs will end up being similar, if not a degree or two hotter, than Saturday.
The afternoon heat index will get above 105° in central and eastern Virginia, and another heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. An excessive heat warning is in effect for northern Virginia, where the heat index will hit or exceed 110°.
High temperatures and heat index values will drop a couple of degrees the next few days, but it will stay hot and muggy through mid-week. It does look like some cooler temperatures will return for the end of the week with highs in the upper 80s.
Saturday's high in Richmond was 96°, missing a record high by three degrees. Both Saturday and Sunday set new records for warmest low temperature. Saturday's low of 78° replaces the previous record of 77° in 1995. Sunday morning's low of 77° replaces the old record of 76° from 1943. Sunday's record high is 100° from 1985.
