Victim in Hopewell’s first homicide of 2016 identified

HOPEWELL, Va. — Police have identified the man killed in the city of Hopewell’s first homicide of the year early Friday morning.

Officers responded to a report of a man lying in a field near the intersection of Elm Street and Westover Avenue a little after 6 a.m. Upon arrival, they found 26-year-old Edward Shayne Rogers Jr. suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The police department’s Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate this matter and requests that anyone who may have known Rogers, witnessed the shooting or may have been traveling in and around the area to either contact lead Detective Mark Polumbo at (804) 541-2284 or Hopewell/Prince George Crime Solvers at 541-2202.
