COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. -- The Colonial Heights community honored the life of a police officer who died tragically 10 years ago.
Lt. Jamie Sears was off duty driving north on the Boulevard in Colonial Heights when he was killed when his car was struck by a Chesterfield police car involved in a high-speed pursuit.
Sears was a field-training officer who worked with many officers who are still on the job across Central Virginia.
The Colonial Heights Police Department held a memorial for Sears Friday morning.
"I have learned through this process that you are not really gone unless you are forgotten,” Jessica Younts, Sears’ widow, said. “And Jamie has never been forgotten, by his family, his friends, his law enforcement family and even the community, They still remember him and the kind of man that he was.”
The suspect who started the police chase that ended with Sears' death was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter along with other charges.
